Initial situation

Nick Roach is the founder of Elegant Themes and thus also of the popular Divi theme. Since its launch in 2013, Divi has undergone impressive development and is one of the most widely used WordPress themes worldwide – in Switzerland alone there are over 20,000 active Divi installations.

However, in recent years Divi has fallen somewhat behind. The reason: Elegant Themes decided to completely rebuild the Divi 5 update– with its own Divi API, without the previous shortcodes, and with a significantly more modern foundation.

During this development period, however, there will be no major new features for Divi 4. This means that the current version may seem somewhat outdated. An official update can only be implemented once Divi 5 is released.

Problem statement

The complete reprogramming brings opportunities, but also major challenges:

• Long development time: The complete rebuild of Divi 5 requires many months of programming and testing.
• Compatibility: Divi's success is also based on its huge marketplace of plugins and extensions. These must first be made compatible with Divi 5 before a safe Divi update is possible.

For many website operators, this will be a complex process – and often hardly solvable without professional support.

Roadmap Divi 5

Elegant Themes has published a roadmap with several development phases:

• Phase 1: Developer Alpha (early 2024)
• Phase 2: Developer Beta
• Phase 3: Public Alpha (current status)
• Phase 4: Public Beta (expected early 2026)
• Phase 5: Official Release (no official date)

As you can see, the project is still ongoing. There is currently no fixed release date for the Divi 5 update.
