Backlinks and keywords – that's where SEO optimization began. So you might think that many people understand what it means today. But with all the talk of expertise, authoritativeness, trustworthiness, schema markup, etc., the so-called "low-hanging fruit" is often neglected.
Especially in regional SEO strategies, there is often a lot of hidden potential that can be exploited with good planning and a certain sense of realism.
1. Find search terms
Which search terms or keywords are relevant for my company?
When considering this question, think about what a potential customer might enter into Google if they were searching for something you offer. As a general rule, aim for 1 to approximately 3 keywords per individual webpage on your website.
2. Determine search volume
What is the search volume for these terms?
With Google's Keyword Planner, you can now find out how often a certain keyword is searched in a specific region. Obviously, it makes no sense to optimize a keyword that has no search volume.
3. Analyze the competition
Which websites are currently displayed for the found keywords?
This step requires some experience, although it's actually quite simple. You now search for a relevant keyword with a certain search volume. Next, you look at the pages that rank for this keyword and analyze their content. There are other factors that need to be analyzed, but first you need to answer the question: Can we do better?
4. Implementation
What does "making it better" mean?
This can mean many things and be very individual. Here is a list of the most obvious points.
- Keyword in Titel
- Keyword in the first sentence
- Keywords 10 to 15 are in use
- Keyword synonyme
- Content that is truly useful for the user
- Alt attributes for images with keywords
- Meta title and description with keyword
4. Observe ranking
Now, regular monitoring is needed to determine how your site is climbing in Google results.
